Scrunchies for Lunchies

110% of your purchase goes to ShareTheMeal, a United Nations World Food Programme fund that goes towards feeding children who are actively experiencing severe food crises. For every $3.00 scrunchie you purchase, I will personally donate $0.30. Each scrunchie you buy therefore feeds 3 children in need for an entire day.

About ShareTheMeal

I chose to donate to ShareTheMeal because their administrative costs are among the lowest in the non-profit world with 90% of donations going directly to operations. I also value that they focus on feeding children. In class I've learned that children under 5 (and pregnant women) are the most at risk for developing micronutrient deficiencies which can have life-threatening consequences, so it’s crucial that we prioritize their dietary intake. Optimal nutritional status "results when children have access to affordable, diverse, nutrient-rich food” (UNICEF, 2013). During the first 1000 days of life (including gestation), proper childhood nutrition is more vital than ever due to rapid growth and development. After two years of age, improvements in nutrition don’t make up for periods of lost growth, which makes focusing on feeding children of utmost importance (UNICEF, 2013).

About Me

Nadine MacDonald,

the one who makes the scrunchies!

I'm doing this as part of a school project (FNH 355: International Nutrition) to help reduce world hunger! I plan on continuing this project with scrap yarn that I have in the future! I personally donate $0.30 for every $3.00 scrunchie that is purchased! That means that 110% of your purchase goes to feeding children in dire need! With the purchase of one scrunchie, you are feeding not one, not two, but THREE children for an entire day!
